Search Contest

Congratulations to Peter and Colin who won prizes last weekend. We are doing something a bit different this weekend. The item above is an opto-isolator, one of the 2007 Cornell University ECE 476 Microcontroller Design used it. The challenge this week is to find the project that used it. 🙂 The prize is a laser pointer pen with a built in 256MB USB drive. This contest will run for this

Gameboy running XP

Looking for a tiny Windows XP computer? Is a Nintendo Gameboy small enough? “The cool thing is that the little system will actually run Windows XP off of a Compact Flash card. I would assume Linux would work just fine as well. You’ll need to hook it up to a monitor to see what you’re doing though, it looks like they ran out of room to install one into the

LED Jukebox

Captain ØdegÃ¥rd posted a cool project that he just finished in the Hacked Gadgets forum. The LED Jukebox is just one of his documented projects. Video after the jump. “Really satisfied, everything works even after i fiddled around with putting in the last 30 LEDs, putting the total to about 40. Decided to go with only one backlighting color for plexi, didn’t see point in having it flash as it’s

Cornell University ECE 476 Microcontroller Design 2007 Final Projects

Bruce Land over at Cornell University teaches a microcontroller design course that has the students get into groups and design cool projects. The ECE 476 Microcontroller Design Final Projects for 2007 are now posted on the course Web site. The projects include everything from a ultrasonic car parking aid to a laser pong game! Hacked Gadgets will be featuring some of these projects during the next few weeks. What are

Magnetic Viewing Paper

I took the motor magnet out of an old 5 1/4 floppy drive and was amazed at the complex magnetic pattern that emerged. It looks like the outer ring of the magnet has magnetic notches that are read by the electronic circuit. I imagine this is used

 Controlling Electronics with Your Mind

Are Wiimote hacks a joke compared to what is around the corner? NeuroSky is developing some consumer technology that might lead the way to some intense game control in the near future! Video after the jump. “NeuroSky has developed a cost effective bio sensor and signal processing system for the consumer market. Our wearable technology unlocks worlds of new applications such as consumer electronics, health, wellness, education and training. The

Secure USB Memory Stick Hack

Not everything that costs lots of money and comes in a velvet case is good quality. Sprites mods has a good article about hacking a “secure” USB memory stick. It seems that the manufacturer broke all the rules when attempting to implement security. “Seemingly, the checking of the password and the unlocking of the stick are two separate processes, both initiated from the PC. From the point of view of
