Garage Door Monitoring System

Using some Parallax processing power Joe was able to monitor his garage doors to make sure it wasn’t forgotten in the open position. Using a Parallax Pink module the system is able to produce a Web page so that the door status can be checked from anywhere.

  1. This is a GREAT idea and a swell project.

My only (personal) issue with it is that this consists of several hundred dollars of gear to get ‘er done:

    Parallax Basic Stamp 2 – $50
Parallax Board of Education – $100
    Parallax PINK – $130
    Parallax 4×20 Backlit LCD – $42
    (all via Google)

    I guess ’til there’s a cheaper way…

I prefer the Arduino to the Stamp, though; alternative sources can get that part’s cost down to around $11, or you can just use a programmed IC, a resonator and a couple of capacitors for about $5.00. Hard to find a substitute for the web-side.
