Name the Thing Contest – 108

Thanks to Protostack for sponsoring the contest this week. They will be providing a ATMEGA168 Development Kit and a USBASP AVR Programmer to the winner. The development kit contains everything you need to start building ATMEGA168 circuits. The AVR programmer is based on the Thomas Fischl’s USBasp design and connects to your computer’s USB port. The USB interface is achieved by using an atmega processor and the rest is done in firmware. The ATMEGA168 Development kit is 25% off right now so if you are needing a new dev platform this might be a good time to pick one up while they are only $13.20. Shipping is often an issue, many companies charge more for the shipping than the parts cost. That is not the case at ProtoStack, their shipping is only $5.00 for worldwide shipping!

This contest will run for one week (November 28 – December 4, 2009) . Ending time is based on central standard time. To enter, identify the item pictured above and give an example of what can be done with it.

Please do not give the answer in the comments.

Send an email to contest @ hackedgadgets.com with “Name the Thing Contest” as the subject, and the message body consisting of:

  • The name of the item in the above picture
  • An example of what the item pictured above can be used for

The winner will be chosen at random from all of the correct entries.

  1. Alan- Great prize! Big thanks to Protostack for this. Only thing that could top it is if we could win the “thing”. Maybe an idea for another contest, “Name the Prize” with pics of the insides or an off-angle pic or…?

  2. My Son Wants One! Thats what the new long ranse Sensor bar for the Wii Gaming System looks like. COOL!

  3. Yeah this is a great prize, but I’m with BrandonU. I wish I could win the thing. It’s probably good that I don’t though — I’m sure I’d create a problem if I did.

  4. Still curious about the answer. 😀

  5. Nevermind. I actually just found a pic of this thing while looking for the newest one!
