Amit Pate, a graduate of Computer Science from Vishveshwarya Technological University developed SixthSense which is a Gesture Controlled Computing Device. We have seen similar Gesture Controlled Devices before, with the cost being only around $300 this could be something we see commercialized in the near future.

“In a simple way, a gesture-controlled wearable computing device that feeds you relevant information and turns any surface into an interactive display. Called the Sixth Sense.

Basically, this is a mini-projector coupled with a camera and a cellphone—which acts as the computer and your connection to the Cloud, all the information stored on the web. There are four different coloured caps that act as cursors to the system. The camera recognizes objects around us instantly, with the micro-projector overlaying the information on any surface, including the object itself or your hand.

The software program processes the video stream data captured by the camera and tracks the locations of the colored markers at the tip of the user’s fingers using simple computer-vision techniques. Then, you can access or manipulate the information using your fingers. It also supports multi touch and multi user interaction.”
