Using a card reader that was purchased for $1.50 Mondo Technology used a PIC12F675 to bring it to life.

“The unit provides the magnetic head on a spring mechanism along with low level head signal amplifiers and data slicers. Three signal lines comming from the unit provide card presence, clock, and data. When actively reading a card, it draws about 50ma of current at 5 volts.”

  4. Hi David,

    Sure you could do that but then the card that is swiped will have different numbers than the one presented, possibly even a different type (Visa instead of Master Card). What you would need to do is use a Reader/Writer unit. Read the card to be cloned and write it to the target card.

    If you look around you should be able to find cheaper ones, note that I have no idea of the quality of this one (I just searched for one).


  5. JJ can you help mate as you have said you can think of all sorts for this card.Tell me more i need to know i will keep you informed as soon as things starts happening. Just remember the card need to be activated first and i can’t activate it myself so i think you know the score.

  30. I have a legitimate use for this. I have barcode scanner, wasp software, have 3 serial smart card readers comign in mail(not sure if they are going to work?????) I have a LEGITAMATE business that I am looking to start a merchant account(talked to quickbooks) Now I been looking on ebay, amazon, google(how I found this place) i am looking to add another business and while becasue of the economy i’m looking to do this obviously cheap. I will need to make membership cards, which I will barcode, print on blank magnetic cards(u can buy these right????) nothing fancy, i”M not buying a printer as they are too expensive but using my laser on preformated wasp templates printing then securing them(somehow) to the blank cards. I have aquired old bank cards, used gift cards from various places that I have to use as testing grounds. I am looking for a writer but all really expensive. Does anyone know of any used readers/writers(usb prefered) I can buy?

  47. Okay so I’ve started a computer repair buisness and its going fairly well however I bought a card reader so everyone wouldn’t have to pay cash but it did not come with software and ideas on where I can get the NURIT Integrated Development Environment 4.01?


  48. I have never looked into developing a credit card payment system but an IDE is probably not what you need. IDEs are usually used for developers to make new systems that use basic building blocks provided by a company. I think you would be better off asking the company for the standard pos software.

    On a side note Paypal has an online credit card option now. You just pull up the screen and enter in the credit card details and process it without the need of a terminal. Depending on the output of the cred ti card reader you purchased you could probably use that to get the card number instead of typing it in.
