Change Optical Mouse LED

Ever want to change the color of your optical mouse?

“This mod is very easy to do. It took me about 15 minutes from start to finish. Blue IMO looks much better than the red before. Much easier on my eyes. The skill level to do this mod is pretty low. The only thing you need to know how to do is solder, which is something that anyone can pick. Please try this mod. Its easier than you may thing.”

  1. i really want to change the red LED of my optical mouse because it is the
only red light visible to my BLUE SCHEMED COMPUTER SET…

how does this LED differ from the other ones?
why is it that red is the common color of these?

    thanks daan..

  2. I’ve changed the LED in most mice I own. I’ve had green, blue, white, infrared and even ultraviolet. Infrared is invisible to the naked eye, so makes it impossible to tell whether the mouse is on or off, but it works just as well as red because the light sensor reacts equally well to infrared. Ultraviolet looks quite nice with a deep purple hue and works just fine.

There’s no real reason to go with red except for the fact that red is cheap and durable, and with long wavelength, it can produce intense light with low energy. Infrared is also quite efficient, but they probably don’t use that because you just can’t see it, so it doesn’t have the cool factor.
