Rechargeable USB Battery

When I think of USB and batteries I automatically think of a device that uses a battery to make 5 Volts and outputs it using a USB jack. Moixa is doing the opposite, it uses a standard USB port to charge batteries. Best of all the plug is built into the battery.

“No, they’re not the latest USB Flash drives in a fancy casing – Moixa’s USB Cell products are real batteries, charged using a spare USB port. Which, if you think about it, is genius: no cables, no special adaptor just plug ’em into your computer every so often.

When so connected, the AA-format, 1,300mAh batteries take about five hours to gain a 90 per cent charge. Each battery has its own charging indicator light, though it doesn’t appear to offer a low-charge warning, which would be handy.”

  1. Either the company making or distributing these has been astroturfing the crap out of all the technology sites. Slashdot fell for it. Looks like you guys might have too.

  2. Yeah, but a crappy piece of kit wouldn’t drum up much excitement. That’s actually a fair idea, but I’d still prefer my 15 minute rechargables. Those are GREAT!

  3. If this is for real, this is a pretty good idea. It’ll probably fall through the cracks though, or it’ll be seen as something useless like a LED USB accessory (I own one thinking it would be useful, but I havn’t found an application for it) and never get used.

  4. I know what you mean, some of those USB devices are quite stupid. I can see uses for this where it may come in handy. For example they could be used in an office for devices that get quite a bit of use such as pocket voice recorders used in meetings. This way it could be charged once a week without the need for using disposable batteries or having a separate desk charger.
