iPod Nano Clone

Looks like the iPod Nano clone is a slick device.

“Razzer001″ provides us with a brief video review of an iPod Nano clone. This particular model features a 1.8-inch TFT-LCD display, 2GB of memory, a built-in FM tuner, and photo viewer.”

  1. I had a one gig clone I got on ebay it only lasted six months and I only used it about 10 times then one day it just stopped turning on. save up your money and buy an mp3 player from from a reputable brand.

  2. Hello!

I can speak english very litle, but i will very short. I have a similar stuff but it stop at
the start process. I try to upgrade the firmware, but i didn’t save the original firmware.
So! I want to ask u to help me. If u have an original “dump” firmware or a newer version please
    send it to me. razon@freemail.hu

    Thank u so much!!

    Bye

  3. Hi

I too purchased this model, the 8GB version for my daughter, got it on eBay, lasted all of one day then got “cyclic redundancy error” when transferring a bunch of mp3 files. I now have a sand-timer on the unit and Win XP does not recognise device and keeps asking for driver files update. I suspect that the flash RAM has corrupted the firmware. Does anybody have the original firmware and/or know of a software flash to USB utility for this model?

Any feedback would be appreciated, please reply to gordon@maxwellclanonline.net

    Cheers

  4. i too have had simular problems have xp worked for one day and now stuck with hour glass.
also xp refuses to connect to it.
also 8 gb version shame really

  5. I just bought one of these, it lasted a day, now you can’t talk to it. Does anyone know how to reset the software, or get newer firmware?
    Cheers

  6. I just bought one of these. The memory is hacked which is the reason for all the errors. It reads 8 GB but it is not accurate. If you put less than 100 songs on it then its fine and after that it gets confused. I used the formatting tool that came with it to add a partition, then to delete the partition and now it reads at the true size. Less than 512mb of memory is actually in these “8 GB” players

  7. Well other than the hard drive issues it looks like it would be a pretty slick little toy to have.

  8. bought one too – battery lasted about 2 minutes after charging all night with supplied adapter. not looking forward to the memory problems after I get the battery problem taken care of.

  9. update: charged all day using computer usb port, still won’t operate for longer than 2 minutes.
also, winXP does indicate 8gigs of ram, but Jim says it’s hacked? if i find out there is in fact only 512mb i’m swimming to hong kong and shoving this thing up someone’s nose. i need a stress-relieving vacation 🙂

  10. I think I got the same 8gb. 2nd time in my life I got something on ebay. So far I have managed to access the small 512 mb hdd (though when I first turned it on it showed 8 gb) I am looking into something to try and get the missing 8gb, or at least have something better than a 512 flash disk with tetris on it. Man, my blackberry is better.
I am going to try and start a support group on that at http://www.drcyco.com

  11. How much did Apple pay all of to write this stuff. I have two and they work just fine.

I guess people with nothing else better to do just complain.

  12. Gee Joe, I wish I had been paid off by Apple. But alas, no cheque. I’m just stuck with a piece of crap colour photo of an hourglass and no support. THEIR CRAP JOE. If your’s works then you must be a charmed man – go buy a lotto ticket.

  13. I have read about the problems you had with your Nano clones. And, to be brief, problems such as yours and similar, does occur when one fails to software shut down their clone first. These clones are very sensitive, and if you saw the example of the man who demonstrated a clone in the Youtube video – you may have notice how he switched his clone off directly using the power switch. This is very very bad. One must first hold the “play” button down for 5 seconds, before the clone’s software shuts itself down (just as in a normal computer), before one uses the “power” switch to turn the clone off. Failure to do this damages the hardware and creates a whole heap of problems. I have had this problem before, and it led me to having to reformat the flash drive. For those of you who want to know how to deal with other similar problems, then you must acknowledge that you will have to reformatting your clone. This will mean deleting all the media that is on your clone’s drive. The embedded software which gives you your user interface experience will remain intact. Right click on My Computer then left mouse click on Manage -> Storage -> Disk Management -> Action -> Rescan disks. Then obey any alert or dialog you read as appropriate.

  14. I’m very very VERY careful to always shut down USB devices correctly before unplugging them, as well as shutting down all software driven devices as the manuals usually indicate. Funny thing, (well not really funny) the manual doesn’t say anything to this effect. Why put a hard pwr switch on the top of the thing that could potentially damage the device? Especially without including a warning on the back. Back to my original comment – the thing is CRAP. Such a sensitive system should never ever be released into the public at any price. I’m no rocket scientist, but I’m not exactly an idiot either. User friendly devices are the order of the day, and this is NOT by ANY means user friendly. Stick with a Sandisk or other product or, just go for the iPod.

  15. I bought a 2gb clone. the rule of thumb is any thing advertised over 2 gb is fake. This is because cheap Japan makers can only afford one or two ram chips. so any thing over is fake. Mine worked i am actually very pleased. the 2gb is real, movies look o.k. at best. but i am always cautious of using a 120$ mp3 player when i skateboard so this thing is good, and very slim too.

  16. …or just read about it above in this post!

  17. I got a ipod nano and will never shop on ebay international again. It will cost me 50.00 just to mail it back, with a tracking on it. people in china selling this FAKE stuff is just hurtting their country. used it one time now an hour glass wont leave the screen!!! call em copy cats!

  18. hi Teresa,

Same problem with me also.have you fopund out a solution if yes let me know.
What ’14. David’ said applies to my case…if anyone finds out a solution please let us know.

  19. I have a solution:
    Buy an IPOD.

  20. i bought this ipod clone in china. but my battery doesnt seem to be charging. is the adaptor provided a factor? by the way, is there suppposed to have an animated blinking of the battery when charging? someone pls reply.

  21. give it up. it’s a piece of shit. the adapter does NOT charge the battery regardless of power button position, despite the poorly direct-translated manual suggesting the power button be switched on. the only way i was able to charge the battery was by usb. actually, the unit is just a glorified battery holder/charger. it kinda’ works as a flashlight – you get a glowing hourglass from the screen. a decent mp3/4 player it is not. since i purchased this item, and the whole lead paint thing i’ve not knowingly bought anything from china again.
    get an ipod.

  22. These things will straight up die. My uncle got me one of these, 1GB, green for $28 from this one merchant. The flash is messed up, and the batteries are absolutely terrible. Mine will only last for about 40 minutes at optimum charge. JUST GO AND BUY A SANSA 512MB FOR LIKE $40. THIS IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

  23. I have two of these units that will only display the hour glass when switched on , xp will not recognise them , So am unable to acces the memory to reset or whatever , seems a real shame as they worked pretty well untill this; Has anyone discovered a fix as yet?? please reply if you have..

  24. i fixed mine once when it gave me the hourglass. put it on the charger for 4 hours then take it off. hold the menu and it should reset it

  25. Hair dryer for 20 seconds then turn it on, it will stop being stuck on the hourglass, that what i did.

  26. So I should charge it for four hours, then hold the menu button for 60 seconds to reset it, then blow it with a hairdryer. Hmmmmmmmmm………..
I’m with Omar – I absolutely LOVE my Sansa 512mb player. Sounds better than my Sister’s IPOD, headphones sound GREAT too.
    Just say “no” to CHI-PODs.

  27. Man, what luck I have. Where were you guys before I bought this 8bg 3rd gen ipod nano clone. I got it three days ago ago and it worked fine, until yesterday. I loaded up 150 songs into my player and wanted to add some more so off my friends computer so i hooked it up on his computer and ever since…the HOURGLASS of doom is on the screen on a blue background. Does anyone have any ideas how i can fix this problem? I’ve read the manual and it doesn’t talk about the HOURGLASS on the error page.

  28. There is no solution for 8gb clone?
best way to utilize it is as pendrive.

  29. hi,
we need to repair the system files
on the mp3/4. accident it eliminates the system files.
is there a site we can
    go to?
    thanks,
    vicky

  30. Vic, you need to give it up. Don’t waste your time – really. Seriously. Go outside. Plant some flowers. Then go to Future Shop and purchase a Sansa-anything or if you have to, pay the extra and get an IPod.

  31. Oh, and tell everyone you know not to buy one of these things. They’re absolute crap 🙂

  32. Well., I guess it depends on how “lucky” you are.

I bought one of these Clones (1 GB actually) just for the Mp3’s and the Radi and HECK !! it’s been working fine and dandy for the last 6 months or so.

It goes through all the “thinkable” harsh treatments such as leaving in the sun till the LCD goes blank, submerging in water, dropping gizzilion times etc…etc….

    but.. it still works 🙂

    Guess it’s just lucky me

  33. I got a 1GB model, and it works for me! Three months running.

I’m inclined to say NO to Chi-pods, but it’s worth around $25, it’s so darn cheap. Half of my little productivity pay well spent…

Vic, you can go to http://www.mympxplayer.org to get an appropriate firmware.

  34. Hashan and kenshinflyer, buy lotto tickets QUICK! You are both charmed.

  35. no hope:i got a 8gb ipod nano clone, good working for1week,then no battery life.i use it as extèrnal pen drive with average results

  36. …and, it doesn’t even write well! I barely got mine to write on cement.

  37. I bought one of these clones. I got 3 hours play out of it. It would only hold 44 songs at 8gb? Battery charging problems and now the dreaded hourglass. DO LIKE I DID…CONTACT EBAY AND LET THEM KNOW THIS STUFF IS JUNK. I AM SHIPPING MINE BACK TO THE SELLER…HE CAN PAY ME OR NOT BUT HE’S GETTING THE POS BACK!

  38. jb: i haven’t been able to locate the seller – he’s changed accounts several times. have you got any information on who i can talk to?

  39. jason….i bought mine off ebay…they have a contact page where u can put in the item number and it will find the seller for you. Then you can let ebay know of your complaints! Hope this helps

  40. I have a 4G iPod nano clone. How do I download music to it? I don’t have any operating manual. Please help.

  41. Btw, DON’T tell me to buy a genuine one. Can’t afford.

  42. i bought a 2gb ipod nano clone mp4 player. tried to update the firmware and from then everything was stopped it just shows an hour glass on screen when powered on or connected to computer even the computer does not recognise it is there any way to get it corrected plzzzz. suggest if there is any…

  43. plzz also send me the links for the frmware if anyone find it.
it has actions 2025 board. and was having firmware version 9.5.54
    my e-mail id is swapnil_bhattad@yahoo.com

  44. i bought an MP4 player 9.5.54 CBD CO. , LTD 2009-05-06 that was sold to me in Venice beach , CA. by a young guy named: Eric
it came in a slick box with a sticker that says 16 GB; 4000 Songs , MSPR(right of the barcode) and $199.00(below the MSPR)
On settings : memory info shows 1900M and 99% full , even if folder has only 1 Song & 2 photos.(and maybe some empty folders , that won’t delete)
i also discovered while trying to delete corrupted files that were in Korean language?(maybe)that one of the
folders was 334 Gb large , which doesn’t make any sense. Folders looked like system folders)
Could someone tell me where I can get a new firmware version or instructions how to configure or format disc or something ?
…see…i deleted spotlight by accident and .trashes folder.(however…i deleted apple.amv on purpose)

  45. You Can only download music or photos in it by copying and
pasting them one file at the time , because it might only
fit two whole songs on an mp3 format + maybe two photos .
P.S. when i put cursor on top of one of those folders that
won’t open…it indicated that folder was as large as 13.6 Gb !
sometimes duplicates of these folders appear and when i name them :
chinese hackware for example…then next time i put cursor on the top…
it indicates that the folder is empty.(so the hackware comes and goes)
(Also from control panel of your PC you can show some hidden folders)

  46. One more thing…Uno mas…
it Charges only on ON position through the USB cable.
(for some reason on OFF position it only shows icon)
(learned that wall charger doesn’t work on some of’em)

  47. Last one…Fini…
On my first comment i put that i had bought an MP4 player,
because i had recently learned that that’s what it is…However ..
It was sold to me as an i-pod that would’ve been my first i-pod ..
i ran into 2other whit youg guys in santa monica , ca. selling these

  48. Hi,
I have one of this mp4 player and it stops mp3 itself on 30-45 seconds later. I want to update this machine but i couldnt find its firmware anywhere 🙁

  49. I just bought one of these Chi-pods about 4 hours ago, I listened to the couple of songs that are budled inside but ran out of charge. Tried charging using the adapter I was given but I got the hourglass picture. These things are useless… Don’t buy them even though they may be cheap. Go on, rob a bank and get yourself a real iPod. Stupid copycatters.

  50. I also bought a 16GB which only holds like no more than 200 songs…these things do their job but they suck!! My boyfriend bought 2 for 100 bucks poor thing got ripped off lol!!

  51. Please please please help me! I can’t get rid of the hour class its horrible.. i tried blow drying it and charging it by my computer but nothing!

  52. I find all kinds of posts same issue of Generic mp4 hour glass
    screen but not help responses.
    Did I miss> apologies if I did.

Searched all data here. If you reload firmware will it restore?
All threads above explains same issue..

    Thanks

  53. They suck. I bought one 16 GB Chi IPOD. All the mentioned problems occur with my 9.5.54 firmware. It’s waste of time an money…

  54. Bought one of these. I solved the hourglass problem by simply using another usb cable. It works fine for me, except when I try to add more songs, they or videos, they don’t play and just say: format error! The rest of the songs work

  55. mine is 16gb mp4 player cbd co., ltd 2009-04-20 9.5.54. not able to connect thru itune???. and also i can able to copy either mp3 or amv files only. what to do??? pls mail me.

  56. Frank

what does “format error” is that the memory is full.

Like everyone, I have the same problem, when you find the solution of pondre

  57. I have a 8gb one of these knock off ipods. Mine works fine.

I’ve had the “format error”, and music not copying to device saying its full…

There is a folder that says not to delete and some other stuff. What I did is I backed up EVERYTHING off the mp3 player and stuck it in a folder for “incase purposes” on my laptop. If you are having problems with you mp3 player, then go your My Computer with you mp3 player pluged into your usb port, figure out which device your mp3 player is, then format the drive. After you format it, put all the stuff you just backed up back on the mp3 player. It should work fine again. Also if you put your music in more than one folder, I noticed that I get a “format error” on the mp3 player.

I don’t know what you guys paid for your, I got mine for $20 off ebay and its been the best $20 mp3 player I’ve ever came across. I think the most anoying thing about my mp3 player it the shake to change songs.

  58. Does anyone here know how I can backup the firmware? And is there any way to reset these Chipods?

  59. My McAfee AV flags the website for security risks. Can you post the description instead? Thx!

  60. I bought the ipod nano 3rd generation clone 8g, almost a year ago…it works great! I payed $36. It takes some getting used to. At first i couldnt charge it. You have to make sure the mp3 is on while charging! My music is in many folders, i have never got any errors. I like the fact that i can delete songs from the device. I never used the video part or e books part cause i don’t want to hassle with it. I only wish i could change the firmware…something that is more like ipod navigation. Just make sure you read costumer reviews before purchasing anything on ebay! I had a real ipod before…over all these knock offs are a 7/10…you get what you pay for.

  61. All these fake IPODS have hacked memory (disk space). They may show that they are 8Gb but you will be lucky if they have even 2Gb. The memory chips used in them are like HY27UU08AG5M means it is only 2Gb. the reason to show higher disk space is for them to be sold easily. They start to give problems as soon as you are about to pass the actual memory. So fix the memory by formatting it on Windows FAT32, you would get back the true space plus fix it from dying away.

    Hope this will help

  62. Oh ..forgot to tell you something important. Back up all your songs B4 you format. Everything will be wiped out by the formatting process.

One way you can tell that the player is about to die is: “If you put more songs on the player and they are not available on the player when you want to play them.”

Try and backup the firmware from the player as well. you will need this if the trouble starts later. DON’T upgrade the unit with another firmware, THE PLAYER WILL DIE.

    Take Care
