Intelligent Hospital Systems – RIVA – Robotic IV Automation

Intelligent Hospital Systems is building a system called RIVA which stands for Robotic IV Automation, it’s a large box of automation which would be installed in a hospital to aid in proper medication delivery. Have a close look at the second image, that’s right a huge robotic arm is used to move the product through various stages inside the machine. I wonder if the development team has some fun with the robotic arms before they are installed into the system?

“Robotic IV Automation (RIVA) is a medical device developed by Intelligent Hospital Systems Inc. (IH Systems) which will be used by hospital pharmacies to automatically and accurately prepare IV syringes and bags. By automating the preparation of IV syringes and bags, RIVA will address the issues of safety for the patient and the pharmacy technician, efficiency and effectiveness in the pharmacy and the challenges of a changing regulatory environment.”

  2. This is very interesting. They’ve had this for doing lab tests for years. I used to work for a French company that imported them into the US. As I recall, even with a not-so-small percentage of error, the test results were still *much* more accurate than the same tests performed manually. I can only assume this will compare as favorably…

    Then again, I can already see the first headline about a computer virus that killed a human… 🙂


  3. funny it would be nice if there was some way for the process to know what was in the bottle not just rely on operators?
    fantastic machine, thought it seems like a bit of a bridge to get people to buy it, i would fit the bags into box jigs too, to help speed it up a bit. also look like there could be a need for a second arm or pick and place.
