PraeMortem shows off his X-Y Table that is made from some DVD players. Now is the time to get out some of those old CD-Rom drives to make your own. See the second video for the surface scanner that he made. Have a look at this coin scan result.
"I´m trying to build a 3-axis cnc drilling machine. Having build up all the hardware by myself i used this to check if it works properly. You can see the motion of the table by being driven to randomly selected coordinates. The source code self-programed ptp-routine in VB6."

This is pretty cool. It would be cool if this guy had a website though where I could check out some pictures, and perhaps a writeup.

I opened a lot DVD Drives but none of them had Steppers for moving the heads. So you must have lots of Luck to find the right ones.

I love the fact that he used VB6, seems hardly anyone uses VB6 its always C++ or C# or Java
Hope he manages to complete his CNC machine.
as Brandon said, this guy needs a site where he can put up a write up, perhaps schematics and source codee

Has anyone heard of a site for this yet? I am looking into building a CNC machine of my own, and I have plenty of old disc drives.
