Botka, The Barely Standing Robot

Using a PIC microcontroller and a accelerometer this toy car has been turned into a fun balancing robot. About half way through the video the car is violently pushed back and forth, either the best recoveries were captured and displayed or the recovery code is very impressive! Here is a video of the car before all the refinements were put in. 🙂 Does anyone know if there is a build log for this project anywhere?

  1. One of the *best* things I’ve seen lately!!!

  2. I agree, this is undoubtedly one of the best hacks in a long time. I thought It was just going to balance, but you can actually still drive it around, amazing.

  3. I would *really* like to see more information posted. I built one of these a while back and it worked well…but not like this! There is no way this is based on simple PID control (Kalman filter?) Somebody…anybody…can we get the code for this?!

  4. Does anyone else see that thing painted camo in the near future. And then soon after with glowy red eyes. LOL

    Very nice work! Very Nice!

  5. Did you notice that it seems to lean into its movement? Rather than just reacting to moving off of vertical, it leans forward before the drive motors accelerate it forward. Very elegant programming!

  6. This is absolutely awesome! I want more 🙂
    It totally blew me away.
