High Quality DIY Headphone Amp

If you’ve ever tried to couple a cheap mp3 player with good headphones, you know much of a pain it can be. This is a walk-through of how to build your own. “Chu Moy designed a very popular headphone amplifier that’s easy to build, and it can be built small enough to fit in a pocket, power supply and all. It’s powerful enough to drive very inefficient headphones to thunderous

Autonomous Roboat Sailing the Irish Sea

The RoBoat team from Austria won the 2007 Microtransat. The France IBoat was a strong contender but had some technical difficulties. “The Microtransat is a transatlantic race of fully autonomous sailing boats. The race aims to stimulate the development of autonomous sailing boats through friendly competition. The Transatlantic race is currently planned for late 2008 with several smaller races taking place before then.”

ShakerRacer BlueTooth RC Cell Phone Car

Andreas Jakl developed the software and Stephan Selinger developed the hardware for the Shaker Racer at Symbian Resources. It reminds me of this RC Car Wiimote hack. Stephan sent in some pictures of the car hardware and some additional details. Thanks Stephan! “We are using an MSP430 microcontroller by Texas instruments on a board by www.olimex.com and the BlueNiceCom IV Bluetooth module. The microcontroller software is written in C.” Video

Eggstractor

This Eggstractor works quite well. I don’t eat lots of hard boiled eggs but when I do I usually end up picking tiny pieces of shell off the egg for a minute or two. I think this idea is good enough for Dragons Den (one of my favorite shows)! “Very useful way to peel an boiled egg. With this homemade gadget you can peeling over 50 eggs per minutes

Eye Fi - WiFi SD Card

We don’t show off many retail products here. But occasionally a product like this Eye Fi device becomes available. There are a few high end digital cameras that have WiFi built in so that they can automatically transfer pictures to your computer. Now for about $100 you can simply swap out your existing SD card and transform your picture taking experience. Just imagine no longer having to remove the card

VGA Microcontroller Test Box

The VGA Test Box project allows a normal microcontroller to output directly to a CRT monitor for testing. “The goal of this project is to create a device that is capable of outputting VGA signals to a CRT monitor in order to display figures, text and characters. Timing is a core essential in this project. If the signal is off by even 1 microsecond, the signal synchronization with the CRT

Foldable Displays and Auto Projection Calibration

Johnny Lee a Ph.D. student from Carnegie Mellon Univerisity is working on some interesting projects. Looks like these prototype Foldable Displays are quite advanced. I can think of so many applications for these displays. The second video demonstrates an prototype automatic projector calibration system that is fast and accurate. “Using infrared tracking and projection, we can simulate displays on flexible and foldable surfaces. This allows us to fit a
