Laser Oscilloscope using two Speakers

Kerry Wong has built a great Laser Oscilloscope using two Speakers. Of course this is not something that can be used to measure any real voltages or waveforms with any accuracy, for that you can use any used $50 scope. What this one does is produce a great visual display. You would be able to record separate right and left audio tracks to produce any light show you like.

DIY Oscilloscope using Arduino Uno and Mega

If you are interested in making a very basic scope to monitor some simple things before you spend the money on a real scope have a look at the work that vaupell posted in the Element 14 community. He tried a number of internet scope projects until he found this one that worked like a charm. “After trying many different versions of code and tutorials, I was unable to

Raspberry Pi Minecraft Blocks with NFC

If you are into minecraft you will soon be able to use some technology to interact with the game using physical objects. Adafruit is making this possible with an NFC reader that they will be releasing soon.   “Coming soon to the Adafruit Learning System, a project to make paper Minecraft blocks that interact with the game on a Raspberry Pi using NFC (near field communication)! Swiping a block

Custom DIY RFID Smart Lock

RFID technology has rapidly been getting cheaper and simpler for the DIY enthusiast to get into over the years. The video above uses a Raspberry Pi and doesn’t have build instructions but that doesn’t matter much. Any microcontroller can easily connect to the heart of the access system which is the actual RFID reader. An Arduino could be used instead, it could be made stand alone instead of network connected

Video Game Repairs

Video game play used to be an activity that was played in an arcade with a pocket full of quarters. There is still a huge following for these classic games. Thanks to the repair work that guys like arcadeuk do they will be kept running for years to come. It is interesting to see that there are lots of mods that improve things like the need for battery backups

Fly Swatter Compact Fluorescent Light Hack

If you have one of those electronic fly swatters kicking around you might want to hack it into a cool looking light. Steven from RimStar has just completed his Fly Swatter Compact Fluorescent Light Hack. The fly swatter is powered from 3 volts (2 AA batteries). The circuit produces a high voltage that electrifies a grid which the fly will short out through his body. The grid is removed

HackRF on Sky Loop Antenna

Todd Harrison shows us how he is using his HackRF. If you have a ham license and want to work on a new RF project you might want to pick up a HackRF and do some experimentation. Using some mig welding wire Todd builds a 20M band antenna. “In this video I put up a 20 meter band Delta Sky Loop Antenna with lighting arrestor to use with my
