Halloween Orange Laser Etched into a Glowing Mini Pumpkin

When you squint a bit and loose scale these mandarin oranges look a bit like small pumpkins. I wanted to rev up the Halloween spirit around the house and without a real pumpkin to carve I settled for the next best thing. That is of course a laser etched pumpkin carving onto a mini orange which is lit from the inside using an LED. I wasn’t sure how it would

Halloween Spooky Audio Trigger

The circuit above is the Halloween Spooky Audio Trigger, it has a door contact sensor connected to it and when it detects that the door has opened it waits for a short time before scaring the pants off your trick or treaters with some spooky sounds! The detection of the door opening is actually the simple part, the more complex part of the Halloween project is how the Nerd Kit

Remote Control IR Jammer around the Net

Thanks to Mark Frauenfelder (Boing Boing), Charlie Sorrel (Wired), Wesley Fenlon (Tested) and David Ponce (Oh Gizmo) for writing about the Remote Control IR Jammer! Mark calls it a TV-B-Gone-B-Gone, that’s a funny concept. Just think if the CES booths has some of these on hand in 2008, Gizmodo might not have had as much fun shutting down all the TV systems .

Electric Mountainboard Version 2

You might remember  the first version of the Electric Mountainboard that Andres Guzman-Ballen had made. Well he just send in a tip about his second version which is very cool. PS3 Temperature Display and Fan Controller

If you want to have more fun playing with the case of your PS3 than you do playing the games have a look at this PS3 Temperature Display and Fan Controller hack. A ton of LEDs are used to display the temperature and the speed of the fan. A bunch more LEDs are used to make a Playstation logo which can jive to the music. 🙂 Nice thing about this

Timing Chain Clock

The simplicity of this Timing Chain Clock is great. The large chain is slung over a sprocket, gravity pulls the chain loop downwards. A geared motor is used to slowly turn the chain to display the time using the acrylic laser cut numbers. Unfortunately Henry Stafford has sold the clock but notes that he will be building more in the future. I think having 3 of these side by side

Custom RGB LED Turn Signals

We featured the RGB LED Vehicle Turn Signals that StarfireMX developed for his Ford Mustang. StarfireMX has now completed the Custom RGB LED Turn Signals and they look fantastic. Most of the features can’t be used on the road but this is a show car to it does have a chance to shine and show off the bling. The system used a number of Arduino based controllers and XBee wireless
