This image shows a bipolar marx generator. The output is a million volts. Mike’s Electric Stuff web site contains three major sections: Antique Glass Stuff, Tesla coils and High-voltage stuff and Miscellaneous electric, science & laser stuff. This site is definitely a look but don’t touch kind of site. Please enjoy the high voltage, but do not attempt to build these devices unless you have experience working with High Voltage.
Afroman’s digital capacitor writeup is mostly theory, but it has some good applications and looks like it could be pretty useful for future projects “By manipulating the input/output states on a microcontroller, you can effectively switch capacitors in and out of circuit, as long as the circuit requires one end of the capacitor to be connected to ground when it is in use. When you set a PIC’s tristate buffer
Our friends over at the Deadly Computer Blog have just finished an Interactive LED Table Build. The results are great! “ A few months ago I saw this Interactive LED Table on a bunch of blogs and instantly knew I must have my own. I contacted the people over at Evil Mad Scientist about their kits, and put in my order. That was in October, and I have been slowly
This Wii mod is one of the most extreme mods I have seen for the Nintendo Wii so far. The video goes over the mods that this machine went through. “After a long time of work I have completed my Wii Here is my Worklist: -lightbar led exchange to Ice blue -clear/black case install -internal gecko adapter -internal GC memorycard -black painted Wii drive -black painted metal back plate -leds
Bruce Land teaches a great course at Cornell University called Advanced Microcontroller Systems on a Programmable Chip (ECE576). This looks to be the big brother to this course. Bruce was kind enough to drop us a line to share the latest group of ECE576 Final Projects. They are all impressive but here are a few of my favorites. This is the Light Source Motion Tracking project. One thing to remember
Here is final project from two Cornell students who researched, designed and implemented an RFID proximity security system. They decided to build a proximity security system as their student id cards supported both magnetic strip and RFID tags. Many of the controlled areas on campus were switching to proximity entry systems. The maximum range of their proximity card reader is about 1.5 to 2.0 inches from the antenna coil. There
If you’ve ever tried to couple a cheap mp3 player with good headphones, you know much of a pain it can be. This is a walk-through of how to build your own. “Chu Moy designed a very popular headphone amplifier that’s easy to build, and it can be built small enough to fit in a pocket, power supply and all. It’s powerful enough to drive very inefficient headphones to thunderous
