Furby Resurrection

Mondo Technology has hacked a Furby in a different way. They scrapped all of the existing controllers and started from scratch. “The mechanism of the Furby itself was designed around micro- controllers. It has one motor that runs the eyes, mouth, and ears in sequence. Two sensors are provided from the motor servo system: one counts off about 200 pulses for the entire sequence, the other is an ‘index’ pulse

TTL Chip TIG Welder

David Barrett has taken TTL logic to the extreme! No his logic isn’t controlling a photocopier, printer or some obscure computer equipment. David’s TTL handywork is controlling a 180 Amp TIG Welder. “Many modern welder front panel’s were looked at and many dozens of spec sheets studied to gain a list of requirements, then it was simply a case of reproducing those function’s simply and cheaply. The descision was made

Big Dog by Boston Dynamics

Big Dog is fantastic looking machine being created by Boston Dynamics. DARPA is funding development of Big Dog, they have also funded development of the Tree Climbing Robot. “BigDog has an on-board computer that controls locomotion, servos the legs and handles a wide variety of sensors. BigDog’s control system manages the dynamics of its behavior to keep it balanced, steer, navigate, and regulate energetics as conditions vary. Sensors for locomotion

Scratchitti (edge-lit) Rune Clock

Theodore Johnson has created an interesting clock that uses edge lit plexiglass tiles. It would take some time to be able to read the characters since Theodore decided to use Eldar Futhark runes as his numbers. Probably no harder to read than an LED binary clock though. This is not the first clock he has built, actually this is just one in a long line of other neat clocks! “I

GameBoy ATAPI CD Player

Jordi Bracke has gone about playing a CD the hard way. Instead of buying a $20 portable player he decided to interface a GameBoy system to play a CD using a computer ATAPI CD-ROM drive. Here is what you need to build your own: -A GameBoy to show track information and control the playing. -A GameBoy cartridge: we will need it to interface the GameBoy to a board. -An ATAPI

Computer Delivery Chain

Ever wonder why your computer parts arrive with a few scratches on them even though they are brand new? Well not all computer manufactures use state of the art delivery chains… More pictures at Ezprezzo.com

Swimming Snake Robot

How would you like to discover this robot swimming with you in a pool? Even though it is totally robotic there is something about the shape and movement that would raise my hairs. “Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the ACM-R5 is a radio-controlled amphibious robot designed to move like its real world counterpart. It can slither or swim underwater for 30 minutes on a full charge. Inside, you’ll find an
