I wonder if the self balancing craze will make it into some real products (other than the Segway). I want a robot like this one that follows me around the house with a laptop. That way I will always be ready to get some work done when the urge strikes. What I really want to see is the same idea but built on a Ballbot type system. 🙂

I have a few self-balancing tables in my house, but they’re much simpler than this. They simply use a third and fourth leg to stay perfectly upright and level, even without electricity.

I think it would be quite useful at big functions moving around the room handing champagne out to various guests.

I just don’t see the point. It’s an example of ingenuity and intelligence, but if you’re looking to fill a service job with a robot. Does it have to have two wheels? Four work perfectly. It balances, it stays upright and you don’t need any fancy schmancy electronics to keep it that way. Well done to the engineer but it seems a bit pointless overall.
