On Monday we featured the first part of Pager Data Snooping experiment. The video above demonstrates the completion of the experiment where the data is successfully retrieved from the device, conditioned and fed into a serial port, some special software allows a Windows computer to display all the messages that are being transmitted to pager clients.

Hi Mikheil,
Yes, someone that wants to send a message will use a service that will get it onto the network, this message is then broadcast into the entire coverage area. The message will contain a code specifying the device that it is intended to be displayed on. All the pagers see all the messages in the stream but only display the ones that were intended for them.

Most pages can have several codes. Makes it easy to page all, or a group of pagers at once.

oops, most pagers can have several codes.

Might want to be careful about publishing any data decoded – US federal law still “allows” private reception of any radio signal, but it does NOT allow sharing it with others….
