Metal Finding Robot

This Metal Finding Robot is a work in progress. The creator hopes that it will find enough money to self fund its completion. That is a goal that I am sure most robot creators could only dream of. I could see letting a few of these loose in a park the day after a big event and collecting tons of cash!

"The Metal Detector consists of 2 separate detetor coils wound around a ferrite rod. The Circuit is a Beat Frequency Oscillator – able to detect metal and also live electrical cable. The Beat-frequency oscillator (BFO) is the simplest type of metal detector. The basic beat-frequency metal detector employs two radio frequency oscillators which are tuned near the same frequency. The first is called the search oscillator and the other is called the reference oscillator. The outputs of the two oscillators are fed into a mixer which produces a signal that contains the sum and difference frequency components. This signal is feed to a low-pass filter removing the harmonics. As long as the two oscillators are tuned to the same frequency, the output will have no signal. When a metallic object disturbs the magnetic field of the search coil, the frequency of the search oscillator shifts slightly and the detector will produce a signal in the audio frequency range. "

  1. no point but if you put big drill bit at front of your robot so it was able to go underground than it would have point think something like this you lunch 5 robots in different places to go and search for gold deep underground after 3-5 days the robot send you a message on your cellphone that he found big amounts of gold underground and it send you the coordinates that would have point.
but to send robot on the beaches for searching rings and thinks like that that would not be smart because some kit will see it and think that someone lost toy car and will grab it and goodbye
    to your robot

  2. I think it’d be a good idea. Of course you’d have to keep an eye on it and/or use it at night when there aren’t many people around.

  3. Better not leave it alone, especially if you live in the states.

Even though it has the little redcross flags, something moving around on its own with a little barrel shaped object moving back and forth attached to it, you know either the bomb squad, or DHS, are going to get called.
