Holocube – 3D Projection Platform

Thanks to Dean for sending in a tip about this cool Holocube – 3D Projection Platform. Is this the monitor of the future? Do you have a tip about something cool, be sure to let us know!

“Holocube is a fully integrated 3D projection platform. It combines the most
advanced modern projection techniques in a contemporary sleek housing. This
enables product focused as well as contextual 3D projections.”

  1. It looks like a fairly bog-standard teleprompter setup to me – just with a toy robot where the camera would normally be. It’s not a 3d projection by any means.

  2. “It combines the most advanced modern projection techniques”

modern? I believe this idea has been in use magic tricks since the 1930’s at least. not to put down the person that made this, or the project itself, but that’s going a bit to far there.

  3. I agree with pelrun — you can see that there’s a 45* slanted glass tilted front to back in the box. Most of their images show a single point-of-view, so there’s no good sense of the “3-D-ness” of the projection. Just slick marketing for a misnamed product…

  4. In 2 words…”Pepper’s Ghost”

  5. haha pepper’s ghost is advanced 3d? Well, in the fact that the rig takes up 3d space.

All there is is a planar LCD display in the top of the box, partially reflected on the 45 degree glass plate you can see the slot for in the box.

It is a tidy implementation, but nothing new, and certainly not 3D.

    Cheers

  6. This look’s faked to me? Cool effect though..

  7. WHATEVER!!! It’s just a “Peppers Ghost” stage illusion of projected images on an angled piece of glass, you can see the mounting slits on either side of the interior where the glass rests. Hologram…B.S.

  8. Daylight visible, plug and play, no sound of cooling vans, easy to upload content with USB stick, aluminum housing, simple to transport, touch as option and democratic pricing we realy did our best guys and for sure it’s not fake.

And one day we will make a holodeck 🙂

  9. @ Jan Vanbriel

A lot of bla, yet no actual 3D projection platform. It’s like Chris said: Peppers Ghost. It’s been around for ages, you just made it look good.

If you are looking for nice words you’re in the wrong place. Nerds like us need more to be impressed. Anyone can do what you did.

  10. Hi Dave i’am a workaholic nerd that one day thought let’s make something ourselves instead of only be critical.
Before the end of January 2010 you will be impressed, promissed.

  11. And by the way, peppers Ghost is working with candle light , bla bla bla bla
