Active Pickguard Project based on the Freescale Kinetis Microcontroller

Eli Hughes developed this Active Pickguard project for a Freescale Kinetis contest. He unfortunately didn’t win the contest but that doesn’t change the fact that the project is totally cool. The contest had a ton of entries and with a quick look at the prizes you will see why, a first place prize of $10,000 isn’t too shabby! I love the cat6 cable that is used to plug it in.

RC Tankbot

Thanks to skater_j10 for sending in this RC Tankbot project. It was created for Solarbotics but he added some additional details about the system on the project page. This tank looks like a great build platform for mobile projects. “In terms of cost, this RF network system seems to compete with even the most low end RC transmission systems. And even though you don’t really get a physical controller with

Laser Targeting Wrist Mounted Crossbow

If you have see the DIY Pulse Laser Gun or the Iron Man Repulsor Light Laser Glove Project then with one look at this Laser Targeting Wrist Mounted Crossbow you would know that Patrick Priebe was the mad man behind it. Watch the video below to see it shooting balloons, cans and light bulbs. I would think that a micro video camera mounted on the glove would make for some

Eyeboard - Allows your Eyes to be used as a Computer Interface

Luis Cruz just graduated from high school but don’t let his young age fool you, he is already developing some very serious systems. His low cost eye tracking system uses Electrooculography to detect the movements of a person’s eyes. This then allows a person to control an electronic or computer system just by looking around. He has also received some CNN coverage, see the CNN video below. Read about the

PWM Fan Controller used to quiet a AC Ryan Media Player

A noisy fan inside a AC Ryan Media Player caused Gerrit van Donk to use the PWM Fan Controller Chip from the PWM Fan Controller Project. This will allow the fan to remain off when the unit is cool inside and only turn on when the system generates some heat. There is a hard drive inside so I would assume this will be the main source of heat but they

DIY Kitt like Larsen Scanner

If you are looking for a fun LED project why not try your hand at building a Larsen Scanner. You might not recognize the name but you have seen them before. Remember the sweeping lights on the front of the Knight Rider car called Kitt? The project will take you through the process step by step and has all the details you need to make your own. “In order to

DIY Stairs Illumination Project based on an Arduino

I am honored that this stair lighting video of our stair lighting controller kit inspired Youtube user Notcranium to build his own. His is based on an Arduino and he has used RGB lights to jazz things up a bit. Great looking stairs Notcranium! At an electrical cost of around $2 per year you sure can’t beat the effect and not having to keep a stairwell light on all the
