Grow Plants with no Soil using LEDs and Nutrient Mists

 

I am looking forward to the day that we can grow fresh vegetables in a small machine that takes a bit of room in the kitchen. By looking at this technology by Gabriela Mombach it may not be far fetched.

"By designer Gabriela Mombach, the Broto Domestic Greenhouse grows plants through aeroponics (in which nutrient mists replace soil) while constantly measuring pH, temperature, nutrients, and humidity. A row of LEDs support photosynthesis while keeping the pot’s handle cool to the touch."

    Maybe this will revolutionize grow-ops, instead of using those huge-ass kW lights, they’ll use LED’s. Technology is beautiful!

  6. It would make a HUGE HUGE difference if the handle could go up and down like the AeroGarden, http://www.Aerogrow.com/ .
    Now the question is how many cool to the touch , low voltage , high output , Red and Blue light spectrum Leds would it take to get 1,000 Watts.
    Hmmm_ Still cheaper to go High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide.__


  7. I like how there are Red and Blue LEDs in the handle. They got it backwards though. There should be more Red LEDs then Blu’. Red Spectrum promotes growth while Blu’ promotes Bloom or Flower stage. Just Like the Natural Sunlight during the Spring and Summer seasons. ;D


  8. The point is that you wouldn’t have to go 1000W, you’d just have to figure out what the equivalent output of UV is from your sodium bulb and find how many LED’s you need for that.

    Whatever color is needed, the point is that LED’s can do it more efficiently then traditional lighting methods. And, don’t plants need UV to carry out photosynthesis?
