RFID Dorm Room Door Unlocking System

We have seen lots of RFID projects over that past year but this RFID Dorm Room Door Unlocking System is sure to catch on. Using suction cups to mount the unit is a nice touch since when this hack is removed there will be no signs that anything funny was done to the lock. I predict that in the next 3 to 4 years we will be seeing this technology built into lots of locks sold at the local Home Depot.

  1. I’m disappointed when the hacks are from hackaday, its the only other tech blog i regularly check and i feel like i missed a day 😛

  2. Hi Apothus,

Thanks for your feedback. Sorry to disappoint…. I also love reading Hackaday and from time to time will post some of their great findings here. I usually try to do so in addition to our regular content but that doesn’t always happen. 🙁

  3. Just an idea for you. Why not add pages on this site that give reference to how to do common hacks that people can work with to make their own. I don’t mean give them schematics for a certain project, but maybe give some information to help people develop their interest in hacking.

It may get more people posting their own projects on here.

Anyway…. the RFID door unlocker looks a good idea. The only thing is I imagine the lock will require a modification.

  4. Too bad it doesn’t lock it as well…hours of amusement from drunken roommates…

  5. it shouldn’t be hard to get it to lock as well

  6. I don’t mean to sound depressing, but I hear the word “RFID” and I cringe, even when it’s for useful purposes like this.
