Homemade Round Object 3D Scanner made from Flatbed Scanner

This Homemade Round Object 3D Scanner does a good job of scanning cylinders. I like the simplicity of the design that rolls the object over the scanning element.

"I modified a Dell scanner in such a way that it can used to scan cylindrical objects such as a soda can or, in this case, an energy drink can."

  3. let me guess…

a round super magnet bar in the can….
and one on the scanner arm (unless it is not plastic)…

  4. @Magneto:

No have a closer look. There ist one small wire holding the can. I Guess the scanner is positioned like a ramp. So the can just rolls down the scanner and is kept in place by the wire.

  5. THAT IS SO AWSOME THAT IT REQUIRES ALL CAPS! It is as good as clippy (the office assistant) turned into a gothic pen with a cowboy hat and the voice of Johnny Cash.
