Starting Lights using 555 Timers

Who says that everything needs to be done using microcontrollers? Well these days I feel muck more comfortable taking on projects using a microcontroller when in the past a handful of TTL chips would have done the trick. I like the fact that you can change so much in code and your hardware doesn’t need to be touched. Travis7s demonstrates with his Ready, Set, Go! Light that 555 timers

NTP Synced Nixie Tube Clock

Big thanks to Evan Quirk for sending in his complex NTP Synced Nixie Tube Clock, best of all there is full details provided so that you can learn from it. "Constructing a clock using nixie tubes is nothing new. It has been done countless times, to the point where it is almost considered a rite of passage for an amateurs in electronics. I was interested in building a nixie

printf and scanf examples for Microcontrollers

Nerd Kits has made an interesting example video showing us how to use C printf and scanf commands. "Programming in C can be a daunting task for a beginner, especially when new programming languages like Python make it so easy to accomplish basic tasks. Taking input from the user, and displaying data back to the user in a human readable format is one of those things in C that

Nixie Tube Clock Kit Build

We have featuring tons of clocks around here lately. Nick Romano sent in a clock that he built from a kit he got from a Frank Techniek. It is spiced up with lots of cool extras that make it shine! "I built one from a kit offered by Frank Tech and then fabricated the case. All parts, fasteners etc are hand made of brass, acrylic and a glass dome.

Single Nixie Tube Clock

There is something very cool about clocks, you have constantly changing information that your design needs to represent. This Single Nixie Tube Clock is a very interesting clock design, it uses a low voltage plug in wall transformer and makes the high voltage needed for the clock on the circuit board. We have seen lots of cool tube clocks in the past and this one is sure to not

Tube Clock Kit

If you like building electronic kits, have a look at this cool Tube Clock Kit that is built around a nice looking Russian display tube. Thanks to Limor Fried from Adafruit Industries it’s open source so if you would prefer to make your own from scratch you can do that! Have a look at a the Adafruit Industries behind the scenes video that Rocketboom make after the jump.  "This

Smart Tweezers Hack

The guys over at Openschemes have hacked a set of Smart Tweezers to measure voltages. The internal DMM chip that was used in the Smart Tweezers has voltage measurement capability however it was never meant to be used. It also seems that even if you purchase one of these Smart Tweezers you should probably adjust the internal calibration pot to allow more precise measurements. "Disassembly of the MS8910 is
