E Rex Electric Sports Car - CES 2011

CES has a bit of everything. After you are done looking at the glow in the dark iPhone cases you can check out the E Rex. Mike Worry, the CEO of Nuvation Engineering gives us an overview of the car. It’s an electric sports car which has been built using a Campagna Motors T Rex as the donor vehicle. Of course the T Rex is gasoline powered so converting it

Expressive Machines Musical Instruments needs a Kick

We love the weird and crazy around here. If there is a healthy dose of tech that is even better. You might remember the Multi Mallet Automatic Drumming Instrument that we featured last year. They are adding robots and lots of smarts to the musical system they are making. The music sounds great and Expressive Machines Musical Instruments are going to open source the creations. Situated Virtual Reality for Telerobotic Control

Stéphane Bersot has developed a Situated Virtual Reality for Telerobotic Control system which allows an operator to control a piece of machinery in a remote location by viewing a 3D representation of the remote scene.  The cool thing about this is since you are looking at a representation of the remote location you are able to see everything at any angle you want including positions that the physical remote cameras

3D Kinect Hacking

I can see companies spinning out some new products that build a device that relies on the Kinect as the main data acquisition portion. Just imagine placing someone on a chair and give them a spin in

Constant Current Source Project

YourITronics has a good article on making a Constant Current Source using a Texas Instruments TPS54232 chip. The TSP 54232 is a flexible little chip but you will need to get out the fine pitch soldering iron tip and cut down on the coffee since it is only available in a surface mount package. There is an interesting DIY thermal via system that is used on the board to allow the

IR Jammer Version 2 - No Remote Controls are Safe

We had some feedback about the IR Jammer and how the button snap was not the best way to attach the 9 volt battery to the IR Jammer. The IR Jammer version 2 now has a plastic 9 volt battery box that holds the battery and with the included double stick foam it is now a much better looking evil device.  It also has much better feel in the hand.
