Mil 24 Hind Model

Not sure if I would have the effort to build a model like this! But the 15 years of work shows, the details are amazing. Many of the hand crafted parts were made under a microscope.

“Fully scratch built, this model took just over 15 years (8000-10,000 hours) to complete. Begun in Kiev (Ukraine), in 1986 this masterpiece was profoundly difficult to construct due to the extreme scarcity of information on it. In 1986 the Mil-24 was still a top secret piece of military equipment. A set of blueprints was ultimately obtained from the manufacturer and over 1000 photographs were used to ensure complete accuracy in the reproduction.

The hind is molded out of 1.5 mm acrylic and clad with 0.1 mm aluminum sheeting. All parts are crafted from either aluminum, brass, titanium, stainless steel or silver, including working hinges made of solid silver to prevent corrosion. ”

  1. No way I would have the dedication to put 15 years into something like this. My hat goes off to the guy (or gal) who pulled it off though, it looks great. I wonder what a collector would pay for a work of art like this?

  2. Incredible dedication. The detail on the helicopter is fantastic. This person must have some kind of aircraft or engineering background to get it so right.

  3. This is incredible. How did you do all the molding at home? What kind of supplies and tools did you use?
I’m particularly interested in the molding process. email me if you read this.
