MMA2260 Accelerometer Project

Ben Jackson has built a nice simple PIC microcontroller based project that interfaces to a MA2260 Accelerometer. Ben provides the source code so you can see his interface technique. It is interesting to read that there was a number of errors on the datasheet for the device, in my opinion the errors that he found are totally unacceptable! “This little board demonstrates the capabilities of the MMA2260 +/- 1.5g X-Axis

The Laser Listener

Build a laser listening device for less than a fast food meal. Video after the jump. “In a microphone, sound waves (differences in the pressure of air) cause a diaphragm to vibrate back and forth, altering its resistance to an electric current. When an electric current passes through said diaphragm, the output forms a complex signal which can then be reinterpeted by speakers or a recording device as sound. The

iFrame - Laptop Digital Picture Frame

The iFrame by Jake Durrett is a nice example of a picture frame that can do it all! "For the past year or so, I have been working to perfect a digital jukebox to manage all my media. I first started out with just an old eMac plugged in under a table, where I would use Apple Remote Desktop to control iTunes. There was something I really didn’t like about

Electric Chastity Belt - Dream Lover 2000

This is one electronic gadget that I don’t want anywhere near me! This Electric Chastity Belt is called the Dream Lover 2000. Have a look at some of the construction details and more videos of the creation. Video after the jump. “I have created an add-on to the CB-3000 chastity belt which can deliver an electric shock via a remote control. The philosophy behind it is that proper training can

Altoids Robot

If you are looking to build your first robot, this Altoids Robot would make for an excellent choice. “This tutorial will show you how to make a very simple robot that will avoid obstacles on the ground. It uses no microcontrollers, no servos, and there is no need to program. The simple design make its an ideal project for those wanting to tryout robotics and also makes a great weekend

Milk Jug Lamp

This project demonstrates the result of some creative recycling. Whimsy Inc made a Milk Jug Lamp from some parts that would have otherwise been tossed in the garbage. “The shades are old-style glass milk bottles – I cut off the bottoms with a wet saw and sand-blasted them frosty. The wiring is from old computer power cables. The wood was all scraps salvaged from my father’s wood workshop.” Via: Funniest
