The prize will help you out on your next camping trip, you can never have enough flashlights (speaking from experience). 🙂
This contest will run for one week (July 27 – Aug1, 2008) . Ending time is based on central standard time. To enter, identify the item pictured above and give an example of what can be done with it. Please do not give the answer in the comments.

    2. This rare item was last featured in the movie Executive Decision starring Kurt Russell at which point it was scrapped due to the realization that while it was a cool idea for a physical detonator, it was powerless to the electrical insulating power of a half chewed coffee stirrer.

  7. Well since everyone else is posting their answers, here’s mine. It is a second generation flux-capacitor. The one used in “back to the future” was loosely based on the first gen.


  8. I wonder what it would be like to put one of those in a … a… One of those things that there are videos of people putting things of this object’s nature in to… (Hehe… If you know what it is, you know what I mean, but if you don’t you’re probably still in the dark.)


  10. Electronic geeks would say it resembles a giant sized Germanium diode.
    It’s a heavy duty crystal radio detector, for use in high RF environments.
