Stonehenge Robotic Digital Clock

 

Steve Norris from Norris Labs has created one of the most interesting clocks I have seen in a long time. This clock would make watching the time go by very enjoyable.

"Stonehenge uses a CrustCrawler Smart Arm and a Parallax Propeller chip to display the current time. All the digits needed to display the time are located on cards positioned in a semi-circle around the left and right sides of the arm. The time itself is displayed in front of the arm. This gives the clock a "Stonehenge" like appearance. There are a total of 14 cards. Each card has two digits with one on each side. The software planner determines which card and which side is needed to display the time and then sends the necessary movement commands to the arm."

  1. This thing is like testicles on a stick, seriously, motion control upgrade anyone?

    I’ve never seen a robot make so many useless movements so slowly…




  2. That is insane, but such slow inefficient motions… agh! And it leaves the clock showing 12:00 at 12:10 for a moment. Should pull off the nine, advance the zero in the tens column, and *then* put back the zero in the ones column!



  3. Once again, another great robot article! ha! That is highly creative. Can’t wait until this whole robotics thing is actually useful. When are we all going to get our own robots!!?!
