Looks like the hardware on the Rigol DS1052E Oscilloscope is identical to the more expensive 100MHz DS1102E version. Nice thing about that is with a few commands you can make your 50MHz scope into a 100MHz scope!

Hey Pete,
I am surprised that there wasn’t even something like a solder in resistor that would tell it what it was. That way someone would at least need to crack open the case to do the mod.

Exactly, anything really to make it a bit harder to hack. I imagine that people will still get to the bottom of it but, protect your stuff a little. I was thinking at first a “signal password” where the described serial commands would have to be entered while a 5v sawtooth signal at 1-1.1kHz was present on channel 2. IDK.
