What Were They Thinking

Killer Video Walls at CES 2011 - LG - Samsung - Sony

At CES I think the motto is go big or go home. LG, Samsung and Sony really took that to heart when they designed their booth design. I was wondering why there was a shortage of big screen TVs about 6 months ago, now I know what happened, all available screens were stuck on the walls at CES. 🙂 I think LG won the battle. Have a look at the

Plasma Speaker

If you are wanting to build a speaker that will make your friend with the 10,000 home theater envious you need to build one of these Plasma Speakers. Teravolt has made a second version with lots of improvements and it sounds great! There is a full schematic provided so you can easily build it based exactly on this design. I prefer to read a normal schematic diagram but have a

Expressive Machines Musical Instruments needs a Kick

We love the weird and crazy around here. If there is a healthy dose of tech that is even better. You might remember the Multi Mallet Automatic Drumming Instrument that we featured last year. They are adding robots and lots of smarts to the musical system they are making. The music sounds great and Expressive Machines Musical Instruments are going to open source the creations. Check out the Kickstarter page

Halloween Electric Chair

I have seen lots of great Halloween Prop builds but this Halloween Electric Chair that Robo and his son made for a school haunted house takes the cake. I love the mix of pneumatics and electrical. The sensor is IR which I obviously love since that is exactly how my Stair Lighting System is activated except by a leg not an electrocuted head! The sander under the seat is sure

Quadcopter Thanksgiving Pie Drop

The guys over at Utah Aerials are having some fun over the US Thanksgiving Holiday by making a Turkey Quadcopter that can drop Pies!  These are the same guys that made the Flying Mr T that we saw a few months ago. “It is constructed of four long sheets of poster-board for the cylinder, and smaller pieces for the head, wings, and tail with some small parts that are folded

IR Jammer Version 2 - No Remote Controls are Safe

We had some feedback about the IR Jammer and how the button snap was not the best way to attach the 9 volt battery to the IR Jammer. The IR Jammer version 2 now has a plastic 9 volt battery box that holds the battery and with the included double stick foam it is now a much better looking evil device.  It also has much better feel in the hand.

Shoot a Bullet through a Spinning Propeller Blade

It is sometimes fun to think of a cool problem and come up with an electronic solution. Have a look at this project that Matt Meerian from Home Brew Electronics put together, it is a way to Shoot a Bullet through a Spinning Propeller Blade. This was a common problem years ago when planes needed to have a forward mounted gun shoot through a center propeller. Matt thought it would
