Latest Hard Drive Clocks

I can’t believe that it has been over 3 and a half years since I made the first hard drive clock. Since then there have been lots of cool clocks created by some talented people. Jason Amsel and Konstantin Klitenikfrom from Cornell University came up with this hard drive clock version (2nd on page), they added a nice touch screen that can be used to set the time. Ian Smith developed a very stable and finished hard drive clock design which looks like a piece of art!  The hard drive clock that Waldeck Schutzer from the Federal University of São Carlos built uses 12 LEDs which make it nice for a very clear position indication (last two images show the results). Baidu built a hard drive clock that has a built in LED display that also shows the time and other messages (first image and video show the results).

Am I missing any hard drive clocks? If you know of another one please let me know in the comments.

  2. Alan,
We have been recycling a variety of computer parts into unique clocks for over a year. We have a “rare and vintage” hard drive clock section as well as a “design your own” hard drive/circuit board clock.
Take a look at our site (www.tecoart.com) and thanks for you great articles.

  3. Hi Alan.
I wanted to reference our site again at http://www.tecoart.com. Since my last contact with you we have added several new types of hard drive clocks, metallic painted, collegiate themed, even some using IBM disk platters from the 1960s! We think we have some pretty unique items and we are always thrilled when we fill an order keeping another computer component from hitting a landfill.

To anyone reading this, check us out and enter our free monthly drawing to win one of these conversation pieces.
    Take care Alan.
